

About Me
Luz Iturbe is a native of Carolina, Puerto Rico, who received her early training at Escuela de Bellas Artes de Carolina and her formal ballet training at Ballets San Juan. She was a member of the Corps of Ballet at Balleteatro Nacional de Puerto Rico under the coaching of María Carrera, Silvia Marichal, and Joaquín Banegas, where she performed classical ballets like Giselle, Le Bayadere, and The Nutcracker, as well as contemporary works from prominent Puerto Rican choreographers. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Marketing and certification in Entrepreneurship from the University of Puerto Rico. She then received a scholarship to participate in the Professional Training Program at the Dance Theatre of Harlem, under the guidance of Endalyn Taylor, Andrea Long, and Robert Garland.
During her career as a freelance professional dancer, Luz has performed a diverse range of dance styles at various stages. In addition to her classical ballet performances at the International Dance Festival of Panamá, Brooklyn Ballet, and Ballet for Young Audiences, Luz excelled as a commercial backup dancer at the inauguration ceremony of the 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games, rapper Nelly’s 2013 performance on Good Morning America, and rapper Residente’s “Atrevete te te” music video. She has also collaborated with Latin dance companies like R.Evolución Latina and Pajarillo Pintao.
Luz holds a Master of Arts in Dance Education from Towson University and was trained in the Cuban Ballet Methodology at the National Ballet School of Cuba in Havana. She is also an ABT® Certified Teacher for Pre-Primary through Level 5 of the ABT® National Training Curriculum. In addition to her certifications, Luz is an experienced teaching artist for outreach programs and has served in the faculty of esteemed institutions, including the Maryland Youth Ballet, The Washington School of Ballet, Dance Theatre of Harlem, and Harlem School of the Arts.
With extensive professional dance training and broad teaching experience, Luz brings both expertise and passion to the classroom. She is committed to fostering an inclusive environment where every student feels valued and respected. Through student-centered and culturally relevant pedagogy, Luz ensures her teaching reflects and honors the diverse backgrounds and experiences of her students.
Luz currently works as a classical ballet instructor and teaching artist in New York. In addition to her teaching, she shares her voice as a writer and presenter, advocating for equity and inclusion in the ballet world. She remains dedicated to sharing her passion for dance and continues to make a meaningful impact as an educator, artist, and advocate within the dance community.
